About
Vegan Eating Out is owned, operated and maintained by Ryan Lawrence.
Vegan Eating Out was an idea I had come up with in my transition from vegetarianism to veganism. I found it difficult to find food to enjoy in the mainstream restaurants, fast food and refreshment establishments here in the United States. People would ask me what I could eat and I had a hard time responding. Overall I was unsatisfied with the thought of going out to eat and would avoid the chance to go out with friends and coworkers with the fear that there would be nothing for me to enjoy.
I did some research online and found a number of websites that list the vegan offerings that are available when eating out, but many of them were difficult to read and didn't give me a very good picture of what was out there. As web authoring had been a hobby of mine, in the summer of 2008 I decided it was the right time to do something.
On July 4th (Independence Day in the US) I founded Vegan Eating Out with the goal of having an easy to use reference to encourage vegans and nonvegans alike to feel comfortable looking for healthy choices in the confusing menus currently available at most places.
I do not want vegans to be looked at as outsiders because of their diet. My hope is that this website will make it easier for people to become and stay vegan. I want Vegan Eating Out to show the large food establishments that there is a demand for vegan food and to have them consider adding vegan items to their menus.
