Compassion over Killing has been campaigning for Subway to offer vegan deli meats through their website, We Love Subway. They propose that with over 23% of non vegetarians buying vegan deli meats, Subway could increase sales with this healthy, no cholesterol alternative.
But if you’re a vegan who’s been missing out on having a fast, freshly made sandwich, Subway already has plenty of choices for you.
At Subway you can choose from 5 honey-free breads as well as 2 more that contain honey. Typically a vegan will order a Veggie Delight sandwich without cheese and pick from a large list of vegetables to add-in. The list includes avocado (at select locations), banana peppers, cucumbers, green peppers, jalapeno pepper slices, lettuce, olives, onions, pickles and tomatoes. If you’re not in the mood for a sandwich any of these can be made in a salad. Some Subways also offer Fruizles, a smoothie made without yogurt that’s entirely vegan.
Vegan Eating Out supports Compassion over Killing‘s efforts to have Subway include more vegan choices. However, if you already would like to try their proposal, consider buying a vegan meat alternative from brands like Tofurkey and Yves to add to your sub at home or in the office. It’s a convenient way to have the lunch you’ve been hankering for.
